Background
New generations of students are set to benefit from the opening of a flagship facility at Weston College in Weston Super Mare. The £13 million Health and Active Living Skills Centre, completed by Midas Construction is based at the college’s Loxton Campus and will welcome its first students in September 2019.
The aim of the bespoke facility is to provide learners with knowledge of the healthcare and sport sectors as well as vital industry skills. The centre will bring together the College’s health and social care, sports therapy and active living courses into one facility, which will benefit students, businesses and the wider community.
It features a state-of-the-art training hospital ward, two full size football pitches (3G and grassed), a multi-gym and a sports hall.
Notable benefits
The roof at the new facility at Weston College benefitted from the installation of the Fatra FF810V mechanically fixed single ply membrane waterproofing system. The FF810V is a 2.05 metre wide membrane which reduces the amount of on site welding by 50% when compared to traditional 1.0 metre wide products. Incorporating the unique Fatra PVC pad fixing system, which fixings the membrane and insulation utilising the same fixing, the FF810V reduces site installation programme providing water tightness at an early stage in the construction phase programme.
Committed to providing defect free projects, Fatra delivered tool box talks to follow on trades to ensure that there was a site wide understanding of working on or around a single ply membrane roof to ensure the integrity of the finished roof was not compromised.
